Honda Reveals First Details of New Civic Type R

Honda Reveals First Details of New Civic Type R

10 September 2013

At today’s Frankfurt Motor Show Press Conference, Manabu Nishimae, President, Honda Motor Europe revealed the first details of the hotly anticipated new Civic Type R. Powered by a direct injection turbocharged 2.0 litre engine, the new Civic Type R will deliver at least 280 PS.

Honda confirmed ambitions for the Civic Type R to become the fastest front wheel drive car around the infamous Nurburgring circuit in Germany. Development of the car will continue until the vehicle goes on sale in 2015, however on-track testing has already begun. “We have recently spent a week at the Nurburgring, carrying out extensive testing and we are on target, and have already set a time approaching the lap record”, said Manabu Nishimae.

A film demonstrating the impressive performance and handling of the Civic Type R development car on the Nurburgring with Honda WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini behind the wheel, was premiered during the Honda Press Conference. You can view the film on our YouTube channel by clicking here

Honda’s new Civic Tourer made its public debut at the show and during the Press Conference, it was confirmed that it would achieve impressively low CO2 emissions from only 99g/km* (3.8l/100km, 74mpg) when partnered with Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC engine. The Civic Tourer builds on the strength of the Civic Hatchback, offering class leading boot space and practicality.

Honda’s commitment to safety is embodied by the term ‘Safety for Everyone’; safety for drivers, but also safety for passengers, pedestrians and occupants of all vehicles. In a further expansion of Honda’s Advanced Driver Assist Systems, a number of new active safety features have been announced at Frankfurt, for introduction to the Civic and Civic Tourer ranges from early 2014. The new systems include Forward Collision Warning, Cross Traffic Monitor, City-Brake Active System, Blind Spot Information, Lane Departure Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Also featured on the Honda stand at the Frankfurt Show is the CR-V powered by Honda’s advanced 1.6 i-DTEC engine. The new combination of 1.6 diesel engine and 2WD has created class-leading fuel efficiency, with 120 PS matched to 119g/km CO2  (4.5l/100km, 62.8mpg), all within a car that remains one of the most spacious and versatile in its class. The CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC arrives in Irish Dealerships in October.
